John de Clinton, 5th Lord Clinton was born in 1410.1 He was the son of William de Clinton, 4th Lord Clinton and Alice de Botreaux.2 He married, secondly, Margaret St. Leger, daughter of Sir John St. Leger and Margaret Donet.1 He married, firstly, Joan Ferrers, daughter of Sir Edmund Ferrers and Ellen Roche, circa 29 October 1431.3 He died on 24 September 1464.1
John de Clinton, 5th Lord Clinton succeeded to the title of 5th Lord Clinton [E., 1299] circa August 1431.1 Circa 1438 he exchanged the Lordship of Maxstoke with the 6th Earl of Stafford, for the Lordships of Whiston and Woodford, Northamptonshire.1 In 1441 he was taken prisoner when serving in France and was held for more than six years until ransomed for 6,000 marks.1 On 1 November 1448 he relinquished all claims to the Barony of Saye in favour of Sir James Fiennes.1 In 1459 he was attainted for his Yorkist sympathies but was restored in 1461.1
