     He gained the rank of Commander in the Royal Navy.1 He lived at Longbridge House, Warminster, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1

James Howard Lindsay was born on 29 April 1871.1 He was the son of William Alexander Lindsay and Lady Harriet Gordon.1 He married Joanna Lucy Gordon-Duff, daughter of Thomas Duff Gordon-Duff, 9th of Drummuir and 11th of Park and Pauline Emma Tennant, on 15 August 1906.1 He died on 22 April 1940 at age 68.1
     He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.)1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was a practising barrister.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the 14th Battalion (London Scottish), County of London Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1917, where he was wounded and mentioned in despatches.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1
