James Howard Lindsay was born on 29 April 1871.1 He was the son of William Alexander Lindsay and Lady Harriet Gordon.1 He married Joanna Lucy Gordon-Duff, daughter of Thomas Duff Gordon-Duff, 9th of Drummuir and Pauline Emma Tennant, on 15 August 1906.1 He died on 22 April 1940 at age 68.1
