     Sir Humphrey George Maurice Broun-Lindsay was born on 23 October 1888.1 He was the son of Alfred Lindsay and Isabel Katherine Northcote.1 He married Edith Christian Broun Baird, daughter of John George Alexander Baird, on 26 July 1921.1 He died on 23 June 1964 at age 75.1
     Sir Humphrey George Maurice Broun-Lindsay was baptised with the name of Humphrey George Maurice Lindsay.1 He was educated at Cheltenham College, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England.1 He gained the rank of Major in the service of the King's Own Scottish Borderes.1 He fought in the First World War between 1918 and 1919, in France and Italy.1 He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for East Lothian.1 He was admitted to Member of the Royal Company of Archers.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of East Lothian.1 On 1921 his name was legally changed to Humphrey George Maurice Broun-Lindsay.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Patrick between 1924 and 1949.1 He was invested as a Knight in 1947.1 He held the office of Vice-Lord-Lieutenant of East Lothian between 1949 and 1964.1

     Sir Edward Dering, 1st Bt. was born on 28 January 1598. He married Anne Ashburnham, daughter of Sir John Ashburnham and Elizabeth Beaumont, Baroness of Cramond.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Tufton, daughter of Nicholas Tufton, 1st Earl of the Isle of Thanet and Lady Frances Cecil, on 29 November 1619. He married, secondly, Unton Gibbes, daughter of Sir Ralph Gibbes, on 16 July 1629. He died on 22 June 1644 at age 46.
     Sir Edward Dering, 1st Bt. was created 1st Baronet Dering in 1627.
