Richard George Herbert Butcher was born on 21 April 1816.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral Samuel Butcher and Elizabeth Anne Herbert.1 He married Julia Carmichael, daughter of E. Carmichael, on 7 July 1840.1 He died in 1891.1
He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).1 He was registered as a Member, Royal Irish Academy (M.R.I.A.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.).1 He held the office of President of the Royal College of Surgeons (Ireland).1 He lived at Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1
