John Cuffe, 1st Baron Desart was the son of Agmondesham Cuffe and Anne Otway.1 He married, secondly, Dorothea Gorges, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Richard Gorges.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton.1 He died in 1749.1
