     James Keith was born on 17 April 1825.2 He married Helen Hamilton, daughter of James Hamilton, on 25 June 1850.2 He died on 21 March 1901 at age 75.2
     He held the office of Provost of Hamilton, Lanarkshire.1

     From 7 July 1915, her married name became Keith.1 After her marriage, Jean Maitland Bennett was styled as Baroness Keith of Avonholm on 4 November 1953.
