     Sir Joseph Lister, 1st and last Baron Lister was born on 5 April 1827.1 He was the son of Joseph Jackson Lister and Isabella Harris.1 He married Agnes Syme, daughter of James Syme, on 23 April 1856.1 He died on 10 February 1912 at age 84, without issue.1
     Sir Joseph Lister, 1st and last Baron Lister graduated from University College London, London, England, in 1847 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He graduated from University College London, London, England, in 1852 with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons (F.R.C.S.) in 1852.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (F.R.C.S.E.) in 1855.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1860.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, in 1878.1 He was created 1st Baronet Lister [U.K.] on 26 December 1883.1 He held the office of President of the Royal Society between 1895 and 1900.1 He was created 1st Baron Lister, of Lyme Regis, co. Dorset [U.K.] on 6 February 1897.1 He wrote the book Collected Papers, published 1909.1 On his death, his title became extinct.1
