     He fought in the Somaliland Campaign between 1902 and 1904.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Commandeur, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.1 He was awarded the Croix de Guerre avec Palmes.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V in 1930.1 He was Senior Naval Officer of the Yangtze between 1931 and 1933.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1933.1 He gained the rank of Commodore in the Convoys.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1941.1 He was awarded the U.S. Legion of Merit.1 In 1950 he was granted the rank of a baron's younger son.1
