     John Coates of Barnhill was the son of John Coittis of Barnhill and Isabel Pollock.2 He married Isobell Mason.1 He died before 3 March 1696.1
     On 22 February 1673 he received a charter of the lands of Barnhill, Blantyre.1 On 30 January 1692 he recieved a charter of Birdsfield, Belfield and Syd, Blantyre.1
