James Coleridge was born on 3 December 1759.1 He was the son of Reverend John Coleridge and Anne Bowden.2 He married Frances Duke Taylor, daughter of Bernard Frederick Taylor and Frances Duke, on 28 February 1788 at St. Mary Arches, Exeter, Devon, England.1,3 He died on 10 January 1836 at age 76.1
He gained the rank of Captain in the 6th Foot.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1809 in the East Devon local militia.1 He lived at The Chanter's House, Ottery St. Mary, Devon, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Devon.1
