     Colonel Hugh Stainton Poyntz was born on 17 September 1877.1 He was the son of Major William Henry Poyntz and Henrietta Emily Laycock.2 He married Hilda Gwendoline Thackeray, daughter of Alexander Thackeray, on 21 July 1909.1 He died on 22 June 1955 at age 77.1
     Colonel Hugh Stainton Poyntz was educated at Eastbourne College, Eastbourne, Sussex, England.1 In 1899 from the Militia.1 He was commissioned in May 1899, in the service of the Bedfordshire Regiment.1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He fought in the First World War between 1915 and 1918, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He was commaning officer of the 2nd Battalion, Bedfordshire Regiment between 1915 and 1918.1 He was decorated with the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Lieutenant-Colonel in 1919.1 He was the Commandant between 1925 and 1935 at Duke of York's Royal Military School, England.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1936.1 He retired from the military in 1936, with the rank of Brevet Colonel.1 He lived at Harestock Close, Winchester, Hampshire, England.1
