     Gerard Mackworth-Young was born on 7 April 1884.2 He was the son of Sir William Mackworth Young and Frances Mary Egerton.1,2 He married Natalie Leila Margaret Hely Hutchinson, daughter of Rt. Hon. Sir Walter Francis Hely Hutchinson and May Justice, on 9 May 1916.1 He died on 28 November 1965 at age 81.3
     He was given the name of Gerard Young at birth.2 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.3 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1906 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)3 He graduated from King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, in 1912 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)3 He held the office of Under-Secretary to Government of India Home Department between 1916 and 1919.3 He was with the Indian Civil Service.1 He was Deputy Commissioner of Delhi between 1921 and 1924.1 He was Secretary of the Government of India, Army Department between 1926 and 1932.3 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1929.3 He was Director of the British School Archaeology between 1936 and 1946 at Athens, Greece.3 He was in Government of India War Department between 1941 and 1944.3 In 1947 his name was legally changed to Gerard Mackworth-Young by Deed Poll.2
