     William Henry Vane, 1st Duke of Cleveland was born on 27 July 1766.1 He was the son of Henry Vane, 2nd Earl of Darlington and Margaret Lowther.1 He was baptised on 18 August 1766 at St. James's, Westminster, London, EnglandG.1 He married, firstly, Lady Catherine Margaret Powlett, daughter of Admiral Harry Powlett, 6th Duke of Bolton and Katherine Lowther, on 17 September 1787 at Hackwood, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Russell, daughter of Robert Russell, on 27 July 1813 at St. James Square, Westminster, London, EnglandG.3 He died on 29 January 1842 at age 75 at St. James Square, Westminster, London, EnglandG.3 He was buried at Staindrop, County Durham, EnglandG.3 His will was proven (by probate) in April 1842, at under £1,000,000, although he also is said to have left another £1,250,000 in consols and £1,000,000 in plate and jewels.3
     He was given the name of William Harry Vane at birth.1 He matriculated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, on 25 April 1783.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Totnes between 1788 and 1790.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Whig) for Winchelsea between 1790 and 1792.1 He was styled as Viscount Barnard.1 He succeeded as the 5th Baron Barnard of Barnard's Castle, in the Bishopric of Durham [E., 1698] on 8 September 1792.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Earl of Darlington, co. Durham [G.B., 1754] on 8 September 1792.1 He succeeded as the 3rd Viscount Barnard of Barnard's Castle [G.B., 1754] on 8 September 1792.1 He was created 1st Marquess of Cleveland [U.K.] on 5 October 1827.1 He held the office of Bearer of the Sword, at King William IV's coronation on 8 September 1831.1 He was created 1st Duke of Cleveland [U.K.] on 29 January 1833, although Gibbs writes a long criticism of this selection of title, given its previous history in being created for his 'notorious ancestress as the actual wages of her prostitution.1' He was created 1st Baron Raby of Raby Castle, co. Durham [U.K.] on 29 January 1833.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) on 17 April 1839.1
     Lord Belhaven commented that he "always had his wine glasses made without a foot, so that they would not stand, and you were obliged to drink off the whole glass when you dined with him."3

     Sir Henry Charles Paulet, 1st and last Bt. was born on 1 August 1814.1 He was the son of Vice-Admiral Lord Henry Paulet and Anne Maria Ravenscroft.1 He died on 11 December 1886 at age 72, unmarried.1
     He was created 1st Baronet Paulet, of West Hill Lodge, Hampshire [U.K.] on 18 March 1836.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Dragoon Guards.1

     Anne Maria Ravenscroft was the daughter of George Ravenscroft. She married Vice-Admiral Lord Henry Paulet, son of George Paulet, 12th Marquess of Winchester and Martha Ingoldsby, on 26 October 1813.1 She died on 15 April 1876.1
     Her married name became Paulet.

     Reverend Lord Charles Paulet was born on 13 August 1802.1 He was the son of Charles Ingoldsby Paulet, 13th Marquess of Winchester and Anne Andrews.1 He married, firstly, Caroline Margaret Ramsden, daughter of Sir John Ramsden, 4th Bt. and Hon. Louisa Susan Ingram-Shepheard, on 18 August 1831.2 He married, secondly, Joan Frederica Mathewana Granville, daughter of Bernard Granville, on 10 August 1850.1 He died on 23 July 1870 at age 67.
     He was the Vicar at Wellesbourne, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He held the office of Prebendary of Salisbury Cathedral.1

     Caroline Margaret Ramsden was the daughter of Sir John Ramsden, 4th Bt. and Hon. Louisa Susan Ingram-Shepheard. She married Reverend Lord Charles Paulet, son of Charles Ingoldsby Paulet, 13th Marquess of Winchester and Anne Andrews, on 18 August 1831.2 She died on 6 October 1847.2
     From 18 August 1831, her married name became Paulet.2

     Sir John Ramsden, 4th Bt. was baptised on 1 December 1755.2 He was the son of Sir John Ramsden, 3rd Bt. and Margaret Norton.2 He married Hon. Louisa Susan Ingram-Shepheard, daughter of Charles Ingram, 9th Viscount Irvine and Frances Shepheard, on 7 July 1787.2 He died on 15 July 1839 at age 83.2
     He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Ramsden, of Byram, co. York [E., 1689] on 10 April 1769.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Grampound between 1780 and 1784.2 He held the office of High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1797.2
