Lt. Lord John Kennedy was born on 4 April 1859.1 He was the son of Sir Archibald Kennedy, 2nd Marquess of Ailsa and Julia Jephson.1 He married Adelaide Mary Learmonth, daughter of Colonel Alexander Learmonth, on 12 February 1890.1 He died on 18 May 1895 at age 36, without issue.1
