Lt.-Col. Matthew Anketell1

     Lt.-Col. Matthew Anketell was born in 1756.1 He was the son of William Ancketill and Anne Coote.1 He married, firstly, Prudentia Martha Corry, daughter of John Corry.1 He married, secondly, Mary Norris, daughter of Reverend Richard Norris.1 He died on 11 April 1828.1
     He was given the name of Matthew Ancketill at birth.1 In 1776 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S.A.G, he obtained, for 2000 Guineas, part of the 57th Regiment to form a Light Company.1 His name was legally changed to Matthew Anketell.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 57th Regiment.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Monaghan in 1783.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Monaghan Militia.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He lived at Arlington Castle, Portarlington, County Offaly, IrelandG.1

     William Anketell was born on 10 October 1790.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Matthew Anketell and Mary Norris.1 He married Sarah Maxwell, daughter of Lt.-Col. John Charles Frederick Waring Maxwell, on 23 June 1809.1 He died on 23 April 1851 at age 60.1
     As of 20 November 1828, William Anketell was considered the head of the Ancketill/Anketell family, succeeding his uncle, Charles Anketell.1 He held the office of High Sheriff in 1830.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1 He lived at Anketell Grove, County Monaghan, IrelandG.1
