     John Eglinton Montgomerie was born in 1878.1 He was the son of Alexander Montgomerie and Elizabeth Wright.2 He married, firstly, Edith Lilian Young, daughter of Hon. George Young, in 1910.1 He married, secondly, Sarah Mitchell in December 1928.3 He died in June 1930.3
     John Eglinton Montgomerie fought in the Boer War.3 He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the New Zealand Forces.1
