     Very Rev. James Francis Montgomery was born on 10 July 1818.2 He was the son of Robert Montgomery and Elizabeth Mason. He married Elizabeth Mary Elphinstone, daughter of James Drummond Fullerton-Elphinstone and Anna Maria Buller, on 17 January 1860.2 He died on 21 September 1897 at age 79, without issue.2
     Very Rev. James Francis Montgomery was admitted to Advocate in 1840.2 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity (D.D.).2 He held the office of Dean of Edinburgh in 1873.2
