General Sir Edmund George Barrow was born on 28 January 1852.1 He was the son of Major-Gen. Joseph Lyon Barrow and Alicia Egan.1 He married Marion Letitia Story, daughter of Reverend William Story, on 14 November 1882.1 He died on 3 January 1934 at age 81.1
General Sir Edmund George Barrow was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, England.1 He was commissioned in 1871.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second Afghan War between 1878 and 1879.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.1 He was a member of the Lockhart Boundary Mission to Chitral, Kafiristan, Hunza and Wakhan between 1885 and 1886.1 He was a member of the Anglo-Siamese Boundary Commission between 1889 and 1890.1 He was Colonel of the Regiment of the Hong Kong Regiment between 1892 and 1895 which he also raised.1 He fought in the Tiran Expedition between 1897 and 1898, during which he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1898.1 He fought in the Boxer Rebellion in 1900, as the Chief of Staff of the China Expeditionary Force.
