     Major Hon. Robert Thomas Rowley Probyn Butler was born on 8 October 1882.1 He was the son of Robert St. John FitzWalter Butler, 16th/26th Baron Dunboyne and Caroline Maude Blanche Probyn.1 He married Grace Theodosia Farquhar Kinloch, daughter of Lt.-Col. George Kinloch, on 15 July 1913.1 He died on 14 December 1938 at age 56, without issue.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Tank Corps.1 He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Cooper's Hill Engineering College.1 He was with the Public Works Department in 1905 at IndiaG.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Indian Army Service Corps.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches, and was wounded.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Royal Engineers.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1915.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1
