     Major Frederick Marcus Oliphant was born on 10 March 1885.1 He was the son of Reverend Frederick James Oliphant and Constance Beresford.1 He married Maud D'Oyly Hammersley, daughter of Lt.-Col. Alfred St. George Hammersley, in 1923.1 He and Maud D'Oyly Hammersley were divorced in 1940.1
     He was educated at St. Lawrence College, Ramsgate, Kent, EnglandG.2 He was educated at St. John's College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.2 He fought in the First World War between 1914 and 1918.2 He was awarded the Chevalier, Legion of Honour.2 He gained the rank of Major in the Seaforth Highlanders.2 He was Assistant Director of the Forest Products Research Laboratory (Department of Scientific and Industrial Research) at Prince's Risborough, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG.2 He was Forest Economist to the Colonial Office.2

     Dorothy Constance Oliphant was born on 13 August 1887.1 She was the daughter of Reverend Frederick James Oliphant and Constance Beresford.1 She married Major William Mainwaring-Burton, son of William Fitzwilliam Burton and Georgina Spencer Wellesley, on 2 June 1912.1 She was also reported to have been married on 2 July 1912.2 She died on 24 March 1964 at age 76.1
     From 2 June 1912, her married name became Mainwaring-Burton.1
