Brig.-Gen. Sir Standish George Gage Craufurd of Kilbirnie, 5th Bt. was born on 10 November 1872.1 He was the son of Sir Charles William Frederick Craufurd, 4th Bt. and Hon. Isolda Caroline Vereker.2 He married Ellen Alexandra Haig, daughter of Captain Alexander Price Haig of Blairhill, on 19 December 1923.1 He died on 6 January 1956 at age 83, without issue.1
Brig.-Gen. Sir Standish George Gage Craufurd of Kilbirnie, 5th Bt. was commissioned, in the service of the Gordon Highlanders.1 He fought in the Chitral Campaign in 1895.1 He fought in the Tirah Expedition between 1897 and 1898, where he was wounded.1 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1902, where he was wounded.1 He was decorated with the award of Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1900.1 He gained the rank of officer between 1905 and 1908 in the service of the West African Frontier Force.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1913.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was wounded three times.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1916.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM King George V between 1918 and 1928.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1919.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Ayrshire.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Ayrshire.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.).1 His marriage to Ellen Alexandra Haig was annulled in 1927.1 He gained the rank of Honorary Brigadier-General in 1928.1 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Craufurd, of Kilbirney, Ayrshire [G.B., 1781] on 24 September 1939.1
