Lt.-Col. Standish de Courcy O'Grady was born on 27 July 1872.1 He was the son of Standish de Courcy O'Grady and Isabella Shepherd.1 He married Esther Alice Vigors, daughter of Colonel Philip Doyne Vigors, on 7 June 1911.1 He died on 23 December 1920 at age 48.1
Lt.-Col. Standish de Courcy O'Grady was educated at Tonbridge School, Tonbridge, Kent, England.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with a Bachelor of Surgery (B.Ch.).1 He was commissioned in 1898.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland, with a Bachelor of Arts in Obstretics (B.A.O.).1 He fought in the East African Campaign, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Army Medical Corps.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He was decorated with the award of Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1917.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1918.1
