James Prendergast was the son of Thomas Prendergast and Eleanor Butler.2 He married Catharine Fitzgerald, daughter of Sir John Fitzgerald.1 He was killed on 12 December 1627 at Cahir Castle, County Tipperary, Ireland, by Edmund Butler, 3rd/13th Baron Dunboyne, in a dispute over the feudal Barony of Newcastle.1
