     William Bruce was born in 1705.1 He was the son of James Bruce and Margaret Holloway.1 He married, firstly, Jane Lewis, daughter of Gabriel Lewis.1 He married, secondly, Mary Turberville, daughter of unknown Turberville.1
     William Bruce held the office of High Sheriff of Glamorgan.1 He acquired the Duffryn estate (in what is now Mid Glamorgan, 6 miles east of Neath).1 He was banker.1 He gained the rank of unknown rank in the service of the Royal Navy.1 He was navy agent.1
