Sir Hugh Acland, 1st/5th Bt., 1690 2
He was educated on 27 November 1652 at Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.3,5 He graduated from Exeter College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, on 22 June 1655 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.).5 He succeeded to the title of 5th Baronet Acland, of Columb-John, Devon [E., 1644] in 1672.3 He was created 1st Baronet Acland, of Columb-John, Devon [England] on 21 January 1677/78, with precedence of 1644.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Barnstaple in 1679.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Tiverton between 1685 and 1687.3 He held the office of Sheriff of Devon from 1690 to 1691.4

Sir John Acland, 1st Bt. was born circa 1591.1 He was the son of Sir Arthur Acland and Eleanor Mallet.1 He married Elizabeth Vincent, daughter of Sir Francis Vincent, 1st Bt. and Sarah Paulet, before 1635.1 He died on 24 August 1647.1 He was buried at Stoke d'Abernon, Surrey, England.2 His will (dated 1 December 1646) was probated between 30 November 1648 and 5 July 1671.2
He held the office of Sheriff of Devon in 1641.1 He was created 1st Baronet Acland, of Columb-John, Devon [England] on 24 June 1644, although no docket has ever been found to support this owing to the confusion of the Civil War, in which he was a Royalist.1 He maintained a garrsion for the King at Columb-John, which at one time was the only force for the King which remained in the country.2 He lived at Columb-John, Broadclyst, Devon, England.1
