     He was Harberton House.2 Headington Hill.2 Oxford.2 He was decorated with the award of the Military Cross (M.C.).1 He was Companion, Order of the Star of India (C.S.I.).2 He graduated with a Master of Arts (M.A.).2 In 1941 The Guides PFF (Queen's Own Corps of Guides) (killed on active service ).2

     Major John David Makgill Crichton Maitland was born on 10 September 1925.2 He is the son of Colonel Mark Edward Makgill Crichton Maitland and Patience Irene Fleetwood Fuller.2 He married, firstly, Jean Patricia Creagh, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Sir Michael O'Moore Creagh and Jean Helen McGrigor, on 12 June 1954.2 He married, secondly, Mary Anne Vere Eales, daughter of Major Charles Herbert Harberton Eales and Vere Edith Ogilvy Ogilvy, in 1987.1
     He gained the rank of Major in the service of the Grenadier Guards.2 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.2 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Renfrewshire between 1962 and 1980.2 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Renfrewshire between 1980 and 1994.2 He lived in 2003 at Daluaine, Rhynie, Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.2
