     John de Cromwell, 1st and last Lord Cromwell was the son of Ralph de Cromwell and Margaret de Somery.2 He married Idoine de Vipont, daughter of Robert de Vipont, before 25 June 1302.1 He died before 8 October 1335, without issue.1
     He was not definitely son of Ralph but probably so.1 He held the office of Constable of Chepstow Castle from 1307 to 1308.1 He held the office of Constable of the Tower of London in 1307/8.1 He was created 1st Lord Cromwell [England by writ] on 10 March 1307/8.1 He held the office of Constable of the Tower of London between 1310 and 1323.1 He fought in the Battle of Boroughbridge in March 1321/22, on King Edward II's side.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Fleet in 1324.1 He held the office of Constable of the Tower of London from 1326/27 to 1335.1

     Idoine de Vipont is the daughter of Robert de Vipont.1 She married, firstly, Roger de Leyburne.1 She married, secondly, John de Cromwell, 1st and last Lord Cromwell, son of Ralph de Cromwell and Margaret de Somery, before 25 June 1302.1
     Her married name became Leyburne.1 From before 25 June 1302, her married name became de Cromwell.1
