     Thomas Dalyell of the Binns was born on 9 August 1932.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Gordon Dalyell of the Binns and Eleanor Isabel Dalyell.2 He married Hon. Kathleen Mary Agnes Wheatley, daughter of John Thomas Wheatley, Baron Wheatley, on 26 December 1963.1 He died on 26 January 2017 at age 84.3
     He wrote the book The Importance of Being Awkward: The autobiography of Tam Dalyell.4 Thomas Dalyell of the Binns also went by the nick-name of Tam.2 He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He gained the rank of Trooper in 1950 in the Royal Scots Greys.1 He was educated at King's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Moray House Teachers' Training College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He was a teacher between 1956 and 1960 at Bo'ness High School, Bo'ness, West Lothian, ScotlandG.1 He wrote the book The Case for Ship-Schools, published 1960.1 He was Deputy-Director of Studies between 1961 and 1962 at British India ship-school, Dunera.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Labour) for West Lothian between 1962 and 1983.1 He wrote the book Ship-School Dunera, published 1963.1 He held the office of Parliamentary Private Secretary between 1964 and 1970, to Rt. Hon. R. H. S.      He was also known as Thomas Dalzell.1 He was Steward to Lord Bruce of Kinloss.1 He purchased the estate of Binns, Linlithgowshire in 1629.1
