     Richard Ernest Minchin was born on 5 March 1831 at Greenhills, County Tipperary, IrelandG.2 He was the son of Reverend William Minchin and Mary Anne Wright.3 He married, firstly, Ellen Rebecca Ocock, daughter of Richard Ocock, on 19 September 1854 at Ballan, Victoria, AustraliaG.4 He married, secondly, Elison Barbara Christina McGeorge, daughter of Robert McGeorge, on 16 August 1883 at St. Michael Church, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaG.5 He died on 4 January 1893 at age 61 at Mount Barker, South Australia, AustraliaG. He was buried at North Road Cemetery, Adelaide, South Australia, AustraliaG.
     He emigrated to AustraliaG arriving on 1851 on board The Stag.1 He was a photographer and painter (much of his work illustrates the development of Adelaide.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) [South Australia]1 He was Director of the Adelaide Zoological Gardens in 1878, the first.1 In 1878 he founded the South Australian Zoological and Acclimatization Society.1
