     Sir Richard Maitland, Lord Lethington was born in 1496.1 He was the son of William Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington and Martha Seton.1 He married Mary Cranston, daughter of Sir Thomas Cranston of Crosbie.1 He died on 20 March 1585/86.1
     Sir Richard Maitland, Lord Lethington was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland.1 He was educated at Paris, France.1 In 1537 he had a royal charter of the lands of Blyth.1 He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1561.1 He gained the title of Lord Lethington [Scottish Law Lord] in 1561.1 He held the office of Lord of Session between 1561 and 1584.1 He wrote the book a hiistory of the Setons.1

     William Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington was the son of John Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington and unknown daughter Dundas.1 He married Martha Seton, daughter of George Seton, 2nd Lord Seton and Lady Margaret Campbell.1 He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.1
     In 1477 he had sasine of Thirlestone.1 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.1

     Sir Robert Maitland of Thirlestane and Levington was New Tag Lethington from Sir John Gifford of Yester.1 In 1345 Levington was confirmed to him by Royal Grant.1 He fought in the Battle of Neville's Cross on 17 October 1346.1
