     James Macpherson was born on 19 September 1848.1 He was the son of Ian 'Dubh' Macpherson and Isabella Cattancach.2 He married Anne Stewart, daughter of James Stewart, in January 1876.1 He died on 17 July 1922 at age 73.1
     He was a merchant.1 He lived at Newtonmore, Kingussie, Inverness-shire, ScotlandG.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.)1

     Anne Stewart was the daughter of James Stewart.2 She married James Macpherson, son of Ian 'Dubh' Macpherson and Isabella Cattancach, in January 1876.1 She died on 23 January 1924.1
     From January 1876, her married name became Macpherson.

     Sir Thomas Stewart Macpherson was born on 21 August 1876.1 He was the son of James Macpherson and Anne Stewart.2 He married Helen Cameron, daughter of Reverend Archibald Borland Cameron, on 20 June 1902.1 He died on 6 August 1949 at age 72.1
     He was educated at George Watson's College, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.1 He graduated from Edinburgh University, Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG, in 1897 with a Master of Arts (M.A.1 He was joined the Indian Civil Service in 1899.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Inverness-shire.1 He was District and Sessions Judge, Bihar and Orissa in 1913.1 He was Judicial Commissioner of Chota Nagpur in 1916.1 He was Superintendent and Remembrancer Legal Affairs and Secretary of the Legislative Council in 1917.1 He was Registrar of the High Court Judicature, Patna in 1920.1 He was admitted to Middle Temple in 1920 entitled to practise as a barrister.1 He held the office of Judge of the Hight Court [Patna] between 1921 and 1924.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by Trinity College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Indian Empire (C.I.E.) in 1922.1 He held the office of Vice-Chancellor of Patna University between 1930 and 1933.1 He was appointed Knight in 1933.1

     James Archibald Stewart Macpherson was born on 19 October 1902.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Stewart Macpherson and Helen Cameron.2 He married Elsie Margaret Giles, daughter of Dr. Alexander Bruce Giles, on 10 September 1934.1 He died on 15 January 1959 at age 56.1
