     Sarah Cosby was born in 1730.1 She was the daughter of Pole Cosby and Mary Dodwell.2 She married, firstly, Rt. Hon. Arthur Upton, son of John Upton.1 She married, secondly, Robert Maxwell, 1st and last Earl of Farnham, son of John Maxwell, 1st Baron Farnham and Judith Barry, on 1 December 1771.1
      From 1768, her married name became Upton.1 From 1 December 1771, her married name became Maxwell.1 As a result of her marriage, Sarah Cosby was styled as Countess of Farnham on 1 December 1771.
