John Duffy was born, m Anne, yr dau of Patrick Gavan, of Lathnamard, nr Newbliss, County Monaghan, in 1769.1 He was the son of Francis Duffy and Mary (?).2 He died in 1827, issue.1

Hon. Sir Charles Gavan Duffy is the son of John Duffy.2 He married Emily McLaughlinissue in 1845.1 He married Susan Hughes, daughter of Patrick Gavan, in 1847.1 He married Louise Hughes, daughter of Philip Hughes, in 1881.3 He died on 9 February 1903,, having by her had issue.3
Error 1844 liberated by House of Lords on Writ of.1 He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) for New Ross (elected against Ch Sec) 1852 Sec 1852.1 Arraigned on four separate bills and twice tried during ten months imprisonment (but conviction impracticable).1 Founder of Irish Confedn.1 D, Young Ireland: a Fragment of Irish His~ory, Conversahons WIth Carlyle, The League of North artd Sollth, Life Of Thomas Davis, Bird's Eye View of Irish History, My Life in Two Hemispheres.1 A majority of this party having proved unfaithful to their pledges.1 Introduced into House of Commons the principle of independent opposition.1 Author of The Ballad Poetry of Jrelafl.1 And a man of letters.1 Founded The Nation.1 A leader of Young Ireland.1 Afterwards a statesman in Australia.1 He was , Juc Monaghan Public Sch, and Belfast Institute on 12 April 1816.1 In 1842 Dublin.1 In 1843 tried for seditious conspiracy with O'Connell and others.1 In 1846 (an unknown value).1 In 1848 arrested for treason felony.1 He was founder of Irish Tenant League which returned more than 50 mems at General Election in 1852.1 In 1856 resIgned and went to Australia.1 He was Minister of Public Works under 1st responsible Government of Victoria in 1857.1 He was Prime Minister (having previously declined) in 1871.1 He was Knight Commander, Order of St. Michael and St. George (K.C.M.G.) in 1873.1 In 1877 unanimously elected Speaker.1 In 1880 returned to Europe (residing in Nice).1 He lived in 2003 at and voted for measures according to their intrinsic value and usefulness to Ireland, ZZZ.1
