James Gerald Fitzmaurice was born on 16 May 1893.1 He was the son of William Henry Fitzmaurice and Emma Theodora Jameson.2 He married Marguerite Sybil Charlotte Barnard, daughter of Gerald Charles Victor Cary Barnard, on 9 August 1927.1 He died on 21 May 1940 at age 47 at Arras, France, killed in action.1
     Lt.-Col. James Gerald Fitzmaurice was educated at Trinity College, Dublin University, Dublin, County Dublin, Ireland.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches twice.1 He gained the rank of officer in the service of the Royal Munster Fusiliers.1 He was decorated with the award of Military Cross (M.C.).1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the service of the Royal Tank Regiment.1
