     Richard Tilt Holmes was born in 1924.1 He was the son of Sir Stephen Lewis Holmes and Noreen Charlotte Trench.1 He married Susan Byrne Charteris, daughter of C. H. B. Charteris, in 1954.1 He died in 2002.2
     Richard Tilt Holmes was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, England.1 He was educated at Christ Church College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England.1 He gained the rank of Flight Lieutenant in the service of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserves.1
