James Finlay1

     James Finlay was born on 4 September 1839.1 He was the son of Alexander Finlay and Jean Finnie.2 He married Elizabeth Pettigrew, daughter of Robert Pettigrew and Mary Bell, on 9 June 1869.1 He died in 1917 at Odessa, Washington, U.S.A.G.1
     He was admitted to the Bar at South Dakota, U.S.A.G.1 He was a practising Attorney and Counsellor-at-Law in 1904 at Washington, U.S.A.G.1 He had two younger sons and three daughters.1

     James Bell Pettigrew Finlay was born on 16 April 1860.1 He was the son of James Finlay and Elizabeth Pettigrew.2 He married Margaret Helena Davies, daughter of John Euston Davies, on 30 July 1903.1 He died on 30 December 1936 at age 76.1
     He was educated at Airdrie Academy, Airdrie, Lanarkshire, ScotlandG.1 He was co-founder of Finlay Engineering Company at Newport, Monmouthshire, WalesG.1 He lived at Portskewett House, Chepstow, Monmouthshire, WalesG.1

     John Euston Bell Finlay was born on 11 September 1908.1 He was the son of James Bell Pettigrew Finlay and Margaret Helena Davies.2 He married Zoe Josephine Lees, daughter of Brigadier Edward Frederick William Lees, on 2 May 1942.1 He died on 6 November 1982 at age 74.1,3
     He was educated at Marlborough College, Marlborough, Wiltshire, EnglandG.1 He was educated at Geneva University, Geneva, SwitzerlandG.1 He was a practising solicitor in 1932.1 He was Junior Legal Assistant, Board of Customs in 1933.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1934 in the 1st (Rifle) Battalion, Monmouthhsire Regiment.1 He fought in the Second World War, with 38 Division, Western Command and Special Airborne Force in New Guinea, Moluccas, Phillippines and Borneo.1 He was Senior Legal Assistant in 1945.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1946.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.) in 1947.1 He was Commissioner and Director of Establishments between 1954 and 1965.1 He was appointed Fellow, Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.) in 1958.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1959.1
