     James Graham Adam was born on 30 July 1800.1 He was the son of Francis Adam.1 He married Jane Brown McIndoe, daughter of Charles McIndoe and Janet Buchanan, on 4 December 1835.1 He died on 24 February 1860 at age 59.1

     General Sir Ronald Forbes Adam, 2nd Bt. was born on 30 October 1885.1 He was the son of Sir Frank Forbes Adam, 1st Bt. and Rose Frances Kemball.2 He married Anna Dorothy Pitman, daughter of Frederic Islay Pitman, on 7 January 1915.1 He died on 26 December 1982 at age 97.1
     He was commissioned in 1905, in the service of the Royal Artillery.1 He fought in the First World War, in France and Italy, and was mentioned in despatches.1 He was decorated with the award of the Companion, Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1918.1 He was invested as a Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1919.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Forbes Adam [U.K., 1917] on 22 December 1926.1 He fought in the Second World War between 1931 and 1941, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Temporary Brigadier and Deputy Director of Military Operations in 1936.1 He gained the rank of Commander between 1936 and 1937 in the service of the Royal Artillery, 1st Division.1 He gained the rank of Major-General in 1937.1 He was Deputy CIGS from with the local rank of Lieutenant-General in 1938.1 He was invested as a Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1939.1 He was commander of the 3rd Corps in France.1 He was Colonel-Commandant of the Royal Artillery and Army Education Corps in 1940.1 He was GOC-in-C of the Northern Command in 1940.1 He gained the rank of Adjutant-General of the Forces in 1941.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1941.1 He gained the rank of General in 1942.1 He was invested as a Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1946.1 He was chairman of the University of London, Institute of Education between 1946 and 1967.1 He was chairman of the Executive Board, UNESCO between 1952 and 1954.1

      From 29 August 1953, her married name became Proctor.
