     Sarah Porter Thornton was born on 7 August 1837 at Denver, Norfolk, England.2 She was the daughter of James Thornton and Sarah Porter.1,2 She married, firstly, George Putland Newbury on 11 January 1860 at St. George's Hanover Square, London, England.1,2 She married, secondly, Nathaniel Narcissus Cookman, son of Edward Rogers Cookman and Mary Elizabeth Huson, on 28 November 1864.1 She died on 7 March 1915 at age 77.1
     From 11 January 1860, her married name became Newbury.1 From 28 November 1864, her married name became Cookman.1
