Sir Gilbert Hay of Ardendraught and Delgaty was the son of Sir William Hay of Ardendraught and Margaret Leslie.1 He married Elizabeth Abernethy, daughter of James Abernethy, 3rd Lord Saltoun of Abernethy and unknown wife (?), on 31 May 1510.2 He died on 9 September 1513 at Flodden Field, Northumberland, England, killed in action.1
He was also known as Alexander Hay of Delgaty and Ardendraught.2 He fought in the Battle of Flodden on 9 September 1513.1
