     Alexander Hay was born circa 1750.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Hay of Park, 3rd Bt. and Jean Blair.1 He married Susan Maxwell, daughter of Sir Alexander Maxwell of Monreith, 2nd Bt..1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Gordon Highlanders.1
