Sir James MacNaghten McGarel-Hogg, 1st Baron Magheramorne of Magheramorne was born on 3 May 1823.1 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir James Weir Hogg.1 He married Hon. Caroline Elizabeth Pennant, daughter of Edward Gordon Douglas, 1st Baron Penrhyn and Juliana Isabella Mary Pennant, on 21 August 1857.1 He died on 27 June 1890 at age 67.1
Sir James MacNaghten McGarel-Hogg, 1st Baron Magheramorne of Magheramorne was baptised with the name of James MacNaghten Hogg.1 He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Hogg [U.K., 1846].1 On 8 February 1877 his name was legally changed to James MacNaghten McGarel-Hogg by Royal Licence.1 He was created 1st Baron Magheramorne of Magheramorne, co. Antrim [U.K.] on 5 July 1887.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.).1
