     Sir Richard Hughes, 1st Bt. was the son of Richard Hughes and Mary Loader.2 He married Joanne Collyer, daughter of Captain William Collyer.1 He died on 23 September 1780.1
     He gained the rank of Captain in the Royal Navy.1 He was Commissioner of Portsmouth Dockyard.1 He was created 1st Baronet Hughes, of East Bergholt, co. Suffolk [Great Britain] on 17 July 1773.1
