Admiral Sir Richard Hughes, 2nd Bt. was born in 1729.1 He was the son of Sir Richard Hughes, 1st Bt. and Joanne Collyer.2 He married Jane Sloane, daughter of William Sloane.1 He died on 5 January 1812.1
He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Hughes, of East Bergholt, co. Suffolk [G.B., 1773] on 23 September 1780.1 He was 2ic of the under Lord Howe at the Relief of Gibraltar.1 In 1782 he took the Solitaire and won a victory over the French off Barbados.1 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Red.1
