     Samuel Lawson died on 13 December 1866.1
     He served apprenticeship with Murray and Woods, of Holbeck, Leeds (who made the Blenkinsop locomotive – the first engine to run commercially in England, carrying coal in 1812.)1 In 1802 he started own business as maker of flax-spinning machinery, and was granted a patent in 1834 for operating fallers by a screw or thread which remained an essential fundamental principle in the textile industry for over a century.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Leeds North-East in 1837.1 He was Poor Law Guardian in 1859.1
