John Leighton was the son of Edward Leighton and Elizabeth Stapleton.2 He married Ankaret Burgh.1 He died in 1493, with two younger sons (Cuthbert, Kt of Rhodes and St John, d without issue.1
He was Member of Parliament (M.P.) , thrice Sheriff Salop, Constable Oswestry Castle Salop 1460.1 He was acquired Manors of Cardeston, Loton and Wattlesborough, Shropshire.1 William, married Margery, daughter and coheir of Sir Fulk Sprencheaux, of Plash, Salop, and was ancestor of the extinct LEIGHTONs of Plash) and a daughter (Elizabeth, married William Lyster, of Rowton).1 He lived Stretton-in-le-Dale.1 Steward Montgomery Castle for Richard, Duke of York, but switched to HENRY VII before Bosworth.1
