     Robert Leighton was the son of Edward Leighton and Abigail Stephens.2 He married Gertrude Baldwyn, daughter of Edward Baldwyn.1 He died in 1689.1
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Shrewsbury between 1660 and 1678.1 He held the office of Sheriff of Shropshire.1 He was one of the proposed Knights of the Oak (a chivalric order proposed by King Charles II but never instituted).1
