     Sir Francis Douglas Ley, 4th Bt. was born on 5 April 1907.1 He was the son of Sir Henry Gordon Ley, 2nd Bt. and Rhoda Prodgers.2 He married Violet Geraldine Johnson, daughter of Major James Gerald Thewlis Johnson and Dorothy Babington Jessop, on 25 June 1931.1 He died in May 1995 at age 88.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Derbyshire in 1939.1 He gained the rank of Major in the Derbyshire Yeomanry (TA.)1 He was chairman of Ley's Malleable Castings Company.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Derbyshire in 1956.1 He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Derbyshire in 1957.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1961.1 He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Ley, of Epperstone Manor, Epperstone, co. Nottingham [U.K., 1905] on 24 March 1980.1
