     Sir Gerald Gordon Ley, 3rd Bt. was born on 5 November 1902.1 He was the son of Sir Henry Gordon Ley, 2nd Bt. and Rhoda Prodgers.2 He married, firstly, Rosemary Catherine Macpherson, daughter of Captain Duncan Macpherson and Edith Julia de Capell Brooke, on 18 February 1936.2 He and Rosemary Catherine Macpherson were divorced in 1956.2 He married, secondly, Grace Foster, daughter of Harold Foster, on 21 August 1958.1 He and Grace Foster were divorced in 1968.1 He died on 24 March 1980 at age 77.1
     He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from New College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, England, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Captain in the 1st Derbyshire Yeomanry, RAC (TA.)1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cumberland in 1937.1 He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He succeeded as the 3rd Baronet Ley, of Epperstone Manor, Epperstone, co. Nottingham [U.K., 1905] on 27 September 1944.1
