     Sir John McFarland, 1st Bt. was born on 15 September 1848.1 He married Annie Talbot, daughter of John Talbot, on 15 May 1893.1 He died on 28 May 1926 at age 77.1
     He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Londonderry.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for County Donegal.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Londonderry between 1904 and 1905.1 He held the office of Mayor of Londonderry between 1908 and 1910.1 He was chairman of Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway.1 He held the office of Mayor of Londonderry in 1912.1 He was created 1st Baronet McFarland, of Aberfoyle, co. Londonderry [U.K.] on 23 January 1914.1

     Sir Basil Alexander Talbot McFarland, 2nd Bt. was born on 18 February 1898.1 He was the son of Sir John McFarland, 1st Bt. and Annie Talbot.2 He married, firstly, Annie Kathleen Henderson, daughter of Andrew Henderson, on 10 September 1924.1 He married, secondly, Mary Eleanor Dougan, daughter of William Dougan, on 2 July 1955.1 He died on 5 March 1986 at age 88.1
     He was educated at Bedford School, Bedford, Bedfordshire, England.1 He fought in the First World War, with the Artists Rifles.1 He was chairman of Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway.1 He was chairman of Lanes (Derry) Ltd.1 He was chairman of Sir Alfred McAlpine & Son (NI.)1 He succeeded as the 2nd Baronet McFarland, of Aberfoyle, co. Londonderry [U.K., 1914] on 28 March 1926.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of the City of Londonderry between 1930 and 1938.1 He held the office of Mayor of Londonderry in 1939.1 He was awarded the Emergency Reserve Decoration (E.R.D.) in 1945.1 He held the office of Senator [Northern Ireland] between 1945 and 1950.1 He held the office of Mayor of Londonderry between 1945 and 1950.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of County Londonderry in 1952.1 He held the office of Aide-de-Camp to HM Queen Elizabeth II between 1952 and 1960.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1954.1 He was appointed Commander, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (C.St.J.)1 He lived at Aberfoyle, County Londonderry, Ireland.1
