     Murdoch Maclaine, 19th of Lochbuie was born in 1730.2 He was the son of Lachlan Maclaine and Flora Macquarrie.2 He married Jane Campbell, daughter of Sir John Campbell, 5th of Airds and Jane Campbell, on 14 February 1786.2 He died on 5 July 1804.2
     He fought in the Seven Years War between 1757 and 1763, in America.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in 1758 in the 114th Royal Highland Volunteers.1 He was a merchant between 1764 and 1775 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1775 in the 2nd Battalion, 84th Royal Highland Emigrant Regiment, and was commended for gallantry in saving the ship Newcastle Jane from the attack of a privateer 23 Oct 1776 when on his way to join his regiment in America, where he served until 1784.2 In May 1785 he was served heir to Lochbuie, having registered his predecessor's deed of entail 18 Jan 1785.2 In 1790 he built Lochbuie House.2 He gained the rank of Captain in 1793 in the Argyll Fencibles.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1794 in the Dumbarton Fencibles.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1797 in the Argyll Fencibles.2

     Donald Maclaine was born circa 1732.1 He was the son of Lachlan Maclaine and Flora Macquarrie.2 He married Jean Laidlaw, daughter of William Laidlaw, on 9 February 1772.1 He died on 28 January 1820, without issue.1
     He was a partner in Maclaine and Gilchrist, merchants at Fyfe Place, Leith Walk, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.1

     Jean Laidlaw was the daughter of William Laidlaw.2 She married Donald Maclaine, son of Lachlan Maclaine and Flora Macquarrie, on 9 February 1772.1 She died on 17 March 1808.1
     From 9 February 1772, her married name became Maclaine.
